Chamber concert Unmöglichkeit IV – Revue
Cooperation with Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop
11 June 2016

With “Unmöglichkeit IV – Revue” (Impossibility IV – Revue), Kaleidoskop Soloist Ensemble will conclude its four-part, tenth anniversary series in concert at KINDL – Centre for Contemporary Art. Following performances at Atelier STUDIOTEN, Galerie Studio Picknick and Sammlung Hoffmann, the ensemble itself will become the object of its own observation for this exuberant final concert.

After beginning with a revue of sixteen solo pieces, Kaleidoskop will reflect upon the past ten years, exploring the contrast between a musician’s isolation as a soloist and an individual’s dissolution and simultaneous self-assertion as a member of the ensemble. In the third part of the programme, sixteen soloists will come together as a collective to play Sebastian Claren’s mammoth one-hour masterpiece, Maurizio/Licht. Based on a techno track, the composition revolves around the ideal of an interwoven group in which no one stands before or above anyone else. The evening will conclude with a performance by Rashad Becker, who will take Maurizio/Licht as the starting point of a new composition, voiced live using electronic instruments and projected via sound induction onto the windows accentuating the 20-metre-high Boiler House.

With music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Rashad Becker (world premiere), Ludwig van Beethoven, Pierluigi Billone, Sebastian Claren, Guillaume Dufay, Joseph Haydn, Christoph Herndler, Helmut Lachenmann, Ole-Henrik Moe, Claudio Monteverdi, Johannes Ockeghem, Wolfgang Rihm, Giacinto Scelsi, Salvatore Sciarrino, Mathias Spahlinger, Claude Vivier, Iannis Xenakis.

A project by the Kaleidoskop Soloist Ensemble, together with STUDIOTEN, Studio Picknick, Sammlung Hoffmann, KINDL – Centre for Contemporary Art. In cooperation with RADIALSYSTEM V. With funding from the Lotto Stiftung Berlin, the Ernst Schering Foundation and the Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung.

The Kaleidoskop Soloist Ensemble was founded in Berlin in 2006. Working with artists of many different genres, the ensemble creates music theatre projects and new concert formats. Under the artistic direction of Michael Rauter and Tilman Kanitz, Kaleidoskop constantly seeks new avenues of performance, with members of the ensemble appearing as both musicians and performers. The ensemble’s repertoire spans from early baroque to contemporary music, encompassing original musical concepts as well. Artistic partners have included Susanne Kennedy, Sasha Waltz, Laurent Chétouane and Sabrina Hölzer. Kaleidoskop has performed as part of the Holland Festival, the Wiener Festwochen, the Ruhrtriennale and the Berliner Festspiele.
